Killdeer

The Killdeer builds its nest on the ground, making it open for predators to raid the nest and destroy the eggs. The adult killdeer will make noise, rush toward the predator, and attempt to distract the animal (or human) away from the nest.  In this watercolor painting, I depicted a killdeer standing near his nest, looking at me, wondering when he could trust me to not steal or destroy his eggs.
